LG V30 Release date, rumours and everything you need to know
Luckily, LG appears to be planning to steal some of its spotlight back. Here is everything we know so far about the second LG flagship of 2017, the LG V30.
While some might argue that LG plays it relatively safe with its flagship smartphones, the same cannot be said about its V-series devices.
Gearing up for the LG V30, the company will likely follow the same path it has taken before with the LG V10 and LG V20. That is, to build the strangest, most feature-packed phone that it possibly can.
The LG V20 offered a lot to love, what with its two screens, a dual-camera setup, a removable battery, quad DAC, microSD support, among other things. It was also the first phone outside of the Google Pixel to come with Android Nougat installed, which is no small feat. Simply put, this phone was a remarkable value even if it was a tad on the expensive side.
Here’s everything we know about the LG V30 and following that, we’ve listed out exactly how we hope this upcoming release shapes up.
What’s more impressive is that LG’s two prior V series devices, the V10 and V20, not only delivered on the specs front but also on innovation, bringing an additional “ticker” display into the mix for unique functionality. Despite their flaws, there’s much the Vs got right, which is why we’re eagerly anticipating the rumored successor, the LG V30.
LG is yet to officially announce the handset but feasible speculation from various sources suggests it’s on its way, and possibly in the next two months. In this article, we’ve rounded up all the current LG V30 specs, price, and release date rumors to give you an idea of what you can expect when it launches.
LG V30: Release date
Google confirmed during its Google I/O 2017 developer conference that LG would be releasing a second flagship before the end of the year after it announced on stage that LG's next device would be compatible with Daydream VR. We know from Google that we will see a device before the year is out, and although it didn't mention an exact month or any names, it is likely this device will be the LG V30.
Based on previous "V" release patterns and industry sources, the LG V30 would be announced sometime in September. The LG V20 was announced on 7 September 2016, just after consumer electronics show IFA, while the LG V10 was revealed on 1 October 2015.
Details on this new phone are scant at the moment, though Google might have dropped the biggest hint to its existence at Google IO 2017 when it said that it will support Daydream VR out of the box.
This, of course, means that not only will it meet spec in terms of power with the Snapdragon 835 likely to be behind the wheel, but it will be the first LG phone to have an OLED screen since the LG G Flex 2 - a mandatory inclusion to be Daydream-compatible.
We’ve heard reports that LG will be bringing OLED to its smartphones later this year, including the LG G7, so Google’s tease more or less confirms it.
LG V30: display
As for the display, LG is said to be utilizing an OLED panel instead of the LCD screens typically used on its handsets. This may be to support a curved display, like on its LG G Flex devices, which also use OLED tech, but it may also just be a flat panel.
We have seen a concept of the upcoming device back in May, which shows the bezel-less display along with a secondary screen on top. Just like on the Essential Phone, there’s also a camera in the middle that just looks great. You can check it out for yourself below.
Before you get too excited, let me just say that it’s actually highly unlikely that the image shows the final design of the V30. According to XDA Developers, the upcoming phablet won’t have what has become an iconic feature of the V series: a secondary ticker.
The V10 and V20 both had a secondary display at the top which presented various notification icons and information without the need to turn the main display on. We'd expect the V30 to offer similar given it has become a distinguishing feature of this series, though we aren't sure if it will go down the same route as Blass suggests.
LG loves a dual rear camera and unlike some companies, it works well. The LG G5 had a great camera, as do the G6 and V20 so we'd fully expect a dual camera to be on board the LG V30 too.
Yes, LG might get bored with the double sensor thing, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? What sensor sizes will be on board the V30 have yet to be rumoured, but we wouldn't be surprised to see it follow in the footsteps of the G6, like the V20 did with the G5.
If this is the case, there could be two 13-megapixel sensors on the rear, one of which would be a wide angle lens, along with features including optical image stabilisation and phase detection autofocus.
The G6 has a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper, as does the V20, but we wouldn't be too surprised to see the resolution increase slightly for the V30.
The LG V models have been all about video capture in the past, so we'd expect this to remain a feature, supported by strong audio too.
Given the sheer size of the LG V20’s camera bump, it was somewhat of a miracle of engineering that the one on the LG G6 impressively sat flush within the chassis.
So, it’d be awesome for LG to keep the momentum going by giving the V30 an equally flattering look.
LG Hardware Specs
LG has done a good job of keeping its V30 plans under wraps. But there have been some leaks to suggest the LG V30 could come with higher-end specs.
Specifically, XDA Developers reported in June that LG is planning to bundle the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor in the handset. It might also come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It’ll also have a microSD card slot, according to that source.
It’s also expected that the smartphone’s screen will have an 18:9 aspect ratio, similar to the LG G6. And since it should be available in early September, look for the LG V30 to run Android Nougat rather than Android O.
Audio Boost
The LG V line of handsets has long been known for its high-quality audio. And according to a report from Android Authority, the LG V30 could similarly deliver solid sound.
LG is rumored to be planning ESS Quad DAC support for the V30. Quad DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) is designed to take digital tracks and convert them to analog. The Quad component means there will be four DACs, all working towards eliminating noise in the sound to deliver better audio.
If it all works well, the LG V30 should be among the best-sounding smartphones on the market.
LG was one of the first to announce a flagship smartphone in 2017 with the G6. It's a fantastic phone but no smartphone ever has the limelight for long. No sooner does one launch, than its competition announces a rival and all of a sudden, what was brand spanking new, becomes old news.

The launch of the V30 is set to take place just before IFA 2017 in Berlin, Germany it may hint at a European release for the phone.
As far as price goes, this smartphone won’t be cheap. Though this isn’t a flagship in the typical sense, you can expect to shell out flagship prices for the V30.
LG V30: Design
The LG G6 was a far cry away from its predecessor, righting many of its wrongs and pushing all the right boundaries, predominately in terms of its display.
While the G series has been the guinea pig in terms of design ideas though, the V series has generally nailed it first time. The LG V20 offers a lovely lightweight aluminium build with super slim bezels, STD 810G drop protection and a sleek and stylish finish.
We'd expect the LG V30 to follow in both the path of its predecessor and its successful G6 sibling, offering a premium design, almost all-screen front, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and more than likely a dual-rear camera setup again. We'd also expect to see IP68 waterproofing.
- 31 August suggested reveal
- Google all but confirmed V30 is coming

- Premium design likely
- Slide out display rumoured
- Rear-mounted circular fingerprint sensor and dual camera suggested

The rumor hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it does make sense. Just like the G6, the V30 is expected to feature the FullVision Display with 18:9 aspect ratio. This will make the device slightly narrower and a bit taller when compared with other devices with the same screen size. Adding a secondary display to the V30 would probably just make it to tall and, therefore, a bit awkward to use.
- 6-inch display rumoured
- 18:9 aspect ratio likely for all-screen front
- Expected to be OLED rather than LCD

HDR-Ready Display
While smartphone displays that support HDR content are popping up at a faster pace, it never hurts to add one more to the pile. LG usually opts to sidestep the competition with its V smartphones, but this would be one area where joining the club would be nothing if not a good thing.LG V30: Software
The LG V30 will most likely arrive on Android Nougat with LG's UX 6.0 user interface over the top, like the G6. No doubt there will be a few additional features added on the software front, but we'd expect a similar experience to that of the G6.- Android Nougat with LG UX 6.0 likely
- Similar experience to G6 predicted
