GoPro Hero 6 Black
GoPro has announced its latest flagship action camera, and while it weighs in at £499 and is therefore £100 more expensive than last year's model, it's because it can safely be called the company's most technically advanced yet.
The GoPro Hero6 Black is capable of shooting video in 4K at 60 frames per second. It can also shoot 1080p at 240fps for extreme slow motion playback.
However, GoPro itself is most excited about the camera's video stabilisation, which it claims is the "most advanced" of any Hero camera in the company's history.
All of this video processing requires some serious grunt, and that comes courtesy of GoPro’s new custom GP1 processor. This is used to analyse your video footage and sensor data for improved automated QuikStories using machine learning. These are GoPro’s automatically edited and cut together videos and looks to remove some of the pain points in dealing with lots of recorded footage.
Custom designing its own chip is important in helping GoPro differentiate its cameras from a number of new rivals that now offer similar shooting capabilities. The Yi 4K+ Action Cam we reviewed managed to beat GoPro to the 4K/60 punch and used an Ambarella chip that featured in previous GoPro cameras.
Lastly, the Hero 6 Black is more rugged than every and can even go underwater up to 33 feet without a special waterproof housing.
The Hero 6 Black is available to order now from GoPro.
The Hero 6 Black will cost $499/£499, making it the most expensive GoPro Hero camera to date.

Software Updates
The company also announced some software updates to its Karma drone, which obviously will support the Hero6. Most notably, Karma is gaining GPS tracking for the Karma controller with new “Watch” and “Follow” modes. With “Watch,” the drone will hover in place while ensuring that the Karma controller remains in-frame, “Follow” predictably chases after the controller so it and capture your high-speed antics. The new modes will be arriving in a firmware update today.
